A stripper clip also known as a charger or charger clipespecially in British and in Commonwealth military vocabulary is a speedloader that holds several cartridges usually consisting between 5 and 10 rounds together in a single unit for easier and faster loading of a firearm 's magazine. A stripper clip also sometimes referred to as a charger clip is used only for loading the magazine. Generally, a weapon that can use a stripper clip for loading can also be loaded one round at a time, while a weapon designed for an en bloc clip cannot be used without the clip. It is called a 'stripper' clip because, after the bolt is opened and the stripper clip is placed in position generally by placing it in a slot on either the receiver or boltthe user presses on the cartridges from above, sliding them down and off the clip, thereby 'stripping' them off the stripper clip and into the magazine.
The main difference between magazines and stripper clips is that magazines are expensive and stripper clips are not. For the price of one quality magazine, you can purchase anywhere from to stripper clips. Generally, stripper clips can hold 10 rounds so if you have 50 stripper clips lying around, you can easily have rounds ready to go before your next shooting session.
